Eindhoven has officially entered its second regional heatwave of the year as temperatures climbed to 30.5 degrees Celsius. This follows a previous regional heatwave from late June to early July.
A regional heatwave is defined by five consecutive days with maximum temperatures exceeding 25°C, including at least three days above 30°C. Eindhoven’s heatwave began on August 7 and reached the necessary criteria today. The city of Gilze-Rijen is also expected to meet the conditions for a heatwave soon.
The Dutch meteorological institute has issued a code yellow heat warning for much of the country, with temperatures potentially reaching up to 35°C in some areas. High humidity is expected to make the heat feel particularly “oppressive.” While coastal areas may experience some relief, the hot weather is forecast to continue into the weekend before a northerly wind brings slightly cooler air.
