Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof will travel to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday to attend an international summit on the future of Gaza, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump. The summit aims to formalize a peace agreement that could officially end the war in Gaza.
The gathering follows the recent Israel-Hamas truce, which includes the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees as part of the first phase of Trump’s peace plan. More than 20 world leaders, including those from France, Germany, the U.K., and the United Nations, will join the discussions to promote stability and reconstruction efforts in the region.
Schoof is also expected to hold bilateral talks with other global leaders during the summit. The Netherlands will co-host a conference on Gaza’s reconstruction in Egypt in the coming weeks, underscoring its commitment to humanitarian recovery and long-term peacebuilding.
While progress has been made, challenges remain—particularly regarding Hamas’s disarmament and the full implementation of the peace plan. The summit represents a pivotal step toward establishing lasting peace and rebuilding Gaza’s infrastructure after years of conflict.
